I spent the day kayaking on the South Fork of the American River with a group of friends. Nothing quite compares to a hot and sunny summer day on the river. The protected river canyon is a sanctuary from the burning asphalt and bright city glare. I absolutely love the feeling of gliding down the rapids in the river. The splash of the cool water and the adrenaline rush of dropping down over rocks and waves energizes my soul.

We are so lucky here in California to have such an incredible mix of natural wonders. I am drawn to the rivers in the Sierras for their incredible beauty and the excitement. Even on busy Saturdays in the summer, I still am surprised how easy it is to find times when no one is around and the peacefulness of nature surrounds us. I wonder why people are stuck in the city, in malls or movie theaters, when the greatest attractions are outside.

I hope we all can work to conserve these resources so these rejuvenating Saturdays can continue for generations.
