August 6, 2005: What did you do for the environment that day? Hundreds of Sierra Club members and friends wrote stories and submitted photos to share what they did. One woman ate from her own garden. Someone else rode his bike instead of driving. An Oregon man wrote a letter to the editor on an important local issue. Others went onhike with the kids, marched in a rally, or reflected on the first connection with nature. One guy even proposed marriage!

Every day matters, of course, we hope you'll add your voice to this collection of stories—no matter what day it is. Choose a day to write about and let us know how you explored, enjoyed, or protected the planet that day. Or share your thoughts on why you choose to spend time in the natural world, or whether you're optimistic about the future of humankind, or a new way to share the gift of nature with children. Click on the button below to share your story and photo.

In doing so, you'll join Sierra Club Executive Director Carl Pope, Club President Lisa Renstrom, Honorary President Dr. Ed Wayburn, noted author Rick Bass, a magazine editor, a cartoonist, a commercial tree farmer, an aerial photographer, a religious leader, and a host of others who believe in the life and strength of the grassroots. These stories reveal how personal values play out in our daily lives—not just on one day, but every day. And not just for a few hundred, but for 750,000 members—and tens of millions of like-minded souls.
