Photo Tips
- Use a digital camera if you can.
- Get yourself in the photo! After all, this is about YOUR connection with the environment on that day.
- Let the photo tell the story. If you're in a beautiful spot, let us see it! If you're picking up trash, let us see it!
- If there are recognizable adults in your photo, they'll need to sign model releases. Print some out and take them along with you just in case! If you don't have model releases, then get a crowd shot so you can't make out individual faces very well, or have someone take a photo of you!
- We can use photos of recognizable children unless they are the son or daughter of the person submitting the story. If the child in unrecognizable in the photo, then we can post it even if the child is not the son or daughter of the person submitting the photo.
- Consider taking some photos with a flash and some without, and see which ones come out best, then send us the best!
- Take a good number of photos so you have a selection to choose from.
Submitting Your Photo
We want a photo to go with every story, whether you send us a digital image or a print. Note, however, that our overwhelming preference is for digital. If that's a big challenge for you, then think right now about someone you know who could handle the digital image part of this process - taking the picture and sending it to us via email. We'll need an image (jpg or gif) that's between 1and 4 megabytes. You'll upload it through the online submission form. If you need to use print film, then take it to a one-hour processing shop and have the pictures put on a CD. Then you can email those to us. If you need to send an actual print through the mail, send it to:
Sierra Club
Attn: Jenny Coyle
85 Second Street
San Francisco, CA 94105
Remember, we can't accept photos that include children under the age of 18 unless you are the parent or legal guardian. Also, if there are recognizable adults in your photo, you'll need to have those people sign model releases and send them in to us at the address above.
Thank you!
